Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama early today named Senator Joseph Biden as his vice-presidential running mate, according to a mobile phone text message sent by his campaign to supporters.
Mr Biden, 65, brings decades of national security experience to the Democratic White House ticket, an area where the presumptive nominee is seen as lacking.
